BA - Bachelor of Arts in Psychology: 2003 Midwestern State University
MA - Master of Arts in Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling: 2009 University of South Florida

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Austin, TX, with more than ten years of experience providing psychotherapy services for state-funded mental health agencies, large and small group practices, and my own private practice. After eleven years of living and working in Florida, I have relocated to Texas, where I was born and raised. It's great to be back and living in Austin, surrounded by an incredible arts scene, live music, and tacos!

I believe art in all its forms — whether it’s music, storytelling, design, dance, poetry, photography, graphics —cuts through our differences, helps us overcome life’s challenges and connects us all. These connections heal and inspire true and lasting change. I enjoy working with creative people, like musicians, artists, and writers; however, I am able to connect with clients of various backgrounds and interests — teens, kids and adults of all ages, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds and family structures. The kinds of issues I routinely treat include ADHD, anxiety, panic, depression and other mood disorders, school/career related concerns, family conflict, LGBTQ+ concerns, and self-esteem issues.

My counseling style is warm, non-judgmental, and encouraging. My therapeutic approach is eclectic in nature, drawing from aspects of Rogerian Client-Centered therapy, Culturally Sensitive/Multicultural therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and art therapy. Clients view me as positive, creative, funny, and genuine.

My goal is to help you achieve stability and wellness by harnessing your creativity and focusing on your strengths. Imagine what your life would be like if you felt more capable, balanced, confident and supported — this is what I want to help you accomplish. Call me or shoot me a text message at (940) 704-1629, or email me at jelkins@inspiretherapycenter.com.
